Home of the Royal Yacht Squadron and host to the world famous 'Cowes Week' each summer, Cowes offers visitors a good selection of shops and restaurants, and from there you can also take one of the regular scenic boat trips on offer, or head across the floating bridge to East Cowes, where a visit to Queen Victoria's splendid summer villa at Osborne House is a must. Alternatively, take a walk along the coastal path to the beach at nearby Gurnard or Thorness Bay. This area provides a superb base from which to explore the many delights this wonderful island has to offer, including Godshill, Carisbrooke Castle and The Needles.
