Annascaul village is a stop-over stage on The Kerry Camino, a spectacular 57km walking route along the Wild Atlantic Way, stretching from Dingle to Tralee. Guest Recommendations Other must do’s during your stay at The Writer’s Cottage is a visit to the mystical Annascaul Lake, an ice-age remnant surrounded by stunning cliffs and mountains; Minard Castle, a 16th century fortress overlooking a secluded sea-cove that’s perfect for a bracing early morning dip, and the Annascaul River Walk (access is to the rere of the South Pole Inn) for a peaceful evening stroll, accompanied by the music of water tumbling over rocks and maybe the sight of a kingfisher, followed by a drink at any of the five village pubs on the way home! Useful Information for Guests There is a children’s playground two minutes walk from the cottage, enroute to the village. Ó Domhnaill’s Store in the village has a good range of essential groceries and also keeps a stock of fuel if required. Open 8am-9pm Monday to Saturday, and 8am-2pm on Sunday. Traditional music in Hanafin’s Bar most Tuesday evening 6-8 pm. Hanafin’s Bar is also a great spot to get up-to-date information on local walks and hiking trails.
