Property Description
Old stone walls mingle with polished timber floors, and deeply recessed sash windows and working shutters, cast a warm glow over everything in this incredibly romantic country retreat. Set in c.27ha(67acres) of paddocks, pasture and woodlands, Ballydonagh House was built in the 1800s.
An atmospheric country house, with every modern convenience, and fully restored and upgraded, Ballydonagh offers an utterly private, rural romantic retreat, which is nevertheless just ten minutes from the M7 and Ireland's motorway network.
The charming entrance hall leads directly through to a sunroom with wide bright windows, opening the house up to the gorgeous gardens and wrap-around patios. To the right and left of the entrance hall find a generous sitting room and drawing room, which itself opens on to a dining room for your more formal entertaining.
Beyond this is a classic and well-appointed country kitchen, leading to a breakfast/sunroom 2, plus a utility room and wet room. Timber beams and solid fuel stoves add to the charm.
Upstairs, the three main bedrooms which are all ensuite, and the master has its own dressing room too. These are enchanting rooms set in the eaves, while the bathrooms are exceptionally well appointed.
There is also a self-contained suite, which although part of the house, also has its own entrance. This comprises a shower room, kitchen and living room, and a bedroom upstairs, and offers great flexibility in terms of a staff flat, guest house, holiday rental or au pair room.
Gardens and Grounds
Set on an extremely generous c.27ha(67acres) approximately, Ballydonagh House itself is perfectly positioned on its site for maximum peace and privacy. Patios wrap around the property, with sheltered seating areas. These give views on to charming planting and undulating lawns, the atmospheric remains of old stone walls, and an ornamental pond.
Rove further afield to discover an adjacent stable yard with horse walker, barn containing stables, a tack room and storage, a hay barn, log store, and further outbuildings, plus a sand arena.
While the pasture, paddocks and woodlands bring great privacy, they also offer wonderful walks and rides. There are secluded seating spots, a man-made pond, and so much space to dream and explore whether on foot or horseback. A series of cross-country jumps connects the fields.
The woodlands themselves have been planted with oak, larch, scots pines, beech, ash and sycamore, which are absolutely gorgeous, but also gift plenty of natural wood to keep the home fires burning.
